I have lived in one house my entire life. It sits in a small town in upstate New York. I often feel
confused when I think of where I am from, and there seems to be little differentiation between my disdain
and adoration. These complexities are what compel me to photograph my home, maybe as a means of
understanding but also as a means of rectifying. Sometimes, there is neither hatred nor love, and other
times both are so enormous that one cannot see over the other. The photographs are not a document of
what it is like to live in rural America, but an investigation of my relationship to it.
